Hand-Carved Reticulated Porcelain Vase – Sculptural Openwork Design
This sculptural porcelain vase combines a softly faceted vessel with an intricate openwork collar, creating a striking contrast between solid and negative space. The upper portion is individually carved into an elegant repeating pattern of curved arches and oval openings, allowing light to pass through the delicate structure while preserving the strength and presence of the form.
The vase is made from warm white porcelain and left unglazed, highlighting the naturally luminous, velvety surface of the material. Its gently tapered body has subtle vertical planes that transition into the more elaborate reticulated section above, giving the piece a distinctly architectural character.
Slip-cast before being extensively hand-carved, the vase reflects a labor-intensive process in which the pattern is carefully removed from the porcelain while the clay is still workable. The result is a refined contemporary vessel that functions equally well as a floral vase or as a sculptural object.
Measures approximately 6.5” high x 4.25” wide.
